TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION:

  • All foals are required to submit hair for DNA or have DNA on record with an approved registry and supply a copy to KMSHA at time of registration.

  • Gelding - one registered & certified KMSHA/SMHA parent or a gaited horse parent that meets the KMSHA/SMHA Breed Standard
     

  • Stallion and Mare - both sire and dam must be registered & certified KMSHA/SMHA before foal is registered
     

  • All horses must pass inspection of 2 Licensed Examiners or submit a video proving gait and that they meet the Breed Standard.  Submit 5 photos and have DNA on file

 

Permanent Registration:
 
Starting in 2012, all 4 year old* and older KMSHA/SMHA horses must be gait and breed Certified or their Temporary Registration Certificate will expire and the owner will have to completely re-register the horse.  Horses born prior to December 31, 2011 will still need to be certified and may do so without penalty until December 31, 2012.

  • If an “Appendix” registered horse is bred it must be to a KMSHA/SMHA registered & certified horse for their offspring to be fully KMSHA/SMHA registered.
