The 2009 show year has started with a bang! In May,
the Jr. Robinson 20th Anniversary show kicked off the year at the
Kentucky Horse Park. In front of a large turnout of spectators and
competitors, the horse Quillan and Jane Shelton took home the blue
in the SMHA Trail Pleasure Championship class. Rocking the Night
Away and Chuck Chambers won the SMHA Classic Pleasure Championship,
and Kay Barnett and Fancy’s Painted Delight won the SMHA Park
Pleasure Championship.
The Spotted Versatility award was such a success at
the International Grand Championship show last year, the award will
be offered again this season. To compete for this award a spotted
horse must be nominated before the show begins. Points are then
tallied for the horses placing and class participation. It was a
tight race, but the spotted horse with the most points was Kerry
Wehmeyer and Sundance Kid. Michael Michno and Ron’s Scout were a
very close second.
The show year continued with success in May with the
Spring Spectacular held in Owingsville (KY). Attendance was high as
over 300 entries took to the show ring for the two day show. Iceburg
and Geoffrey Hill took the blue in the SMHA Trail Pleasure
Championship. Yankee and Brad Anderson were the SMHA Classic
Pleasure Champions and LB’s Wild Thing and Bennie Johnson won the
SMHA Park Pleasure Championship.
Show participation has been up this year including
more spotted horses coming out to the shows. The KMSHA/SMHA State
Championship show will be held on July 10th and 11th in Lawrenceburg,
Kentucky. Please come out to watch or participate and support these
terrific horses.
As a reminder, it is breeding season. Don’t forget
the Spotted Mountain Horse when making your stallion choice.
